Before coming to Seoul in 1983, he headed the German steel manufacturers association's lobby office in Bonn.
Since 1987 he runs his own consulting company "KETIC Inc.", specialised in supporting foreign companies accessing the Korean market, setting up office, and getting established. He also provides foreign business promotion services for Korean manufacturers and traders, and consults government agencies on improvements of the investment climate.
From 1983 to 1987 he was Deputy Secretary General of the Korean-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, where he launched one of Korea's first and longest-running English language business journals, the "Korea Economic Report".
As a board and committee member of the German, American, and European Chambers of Commerce he helped shape a number of policies towards levelling the playing field for foreign companies in Korea.
He is a political scientist by trade and wrote his doctoral thesis on the constitutional and political foundations of modernising Korea. Numerous articles related to Korea's economy, foreign trade, and regional cooperation issues reflect his extensive experience and deep insight into Korea.
